KAVKA is a specialized bookstore and art gallery. We run an online store and a stone shop in the center of Prague. The books we offer here are mostly from the production of Czech or Slovak publishers, galleries and museums and they focus primarily to Czech and Slovak art, architecture and design and photography. Some books are not part of a wider book distribution that is why you can find it only in KAVKA bokstore . Part of our business offer includes antiquarian books on art, unique author's books, or rare bibliophiles. In addition to the books, KAVKA also offers original works of Czech authors, mostly 20th and 21st century. We focus our interest mainly on graphics and drawings, also due to the limited exhibition space. But often you will also find oil paintings or small sculptures. Several times a year, we host chamber exhibitions.
We are a team of art experts and we can assess works of art and books. Our goal is to encourage and rehabilitate the book and art culture. We believe that art, even in the form of beautiful books, is part of the national cultural heritage and should be part of everybody's life..

Lines, cubes, circles and two rabits. Some abstraction to sprinkle spring days.
New exhibition in Kavka presents important Czech artists of 1960s–1980s. The works of Václav Boštík, Zorka Ságlová, Vladislav Mirvals, Jan Kubíček, Zdeněk Sýkora, Milan Grygar, Alena Kučerová, Tomáš Rajlich and Jiří Mirvald. Some of them were important members of the artictic group Křižovatka, and representatives of neoconstructivist in Czech art.

Get to know the people from Kavka
It might easily seem that KAVKA is all books, beautiful space, and big window displays in that great functionalist building. But it's mostly about these few people, they are Kavka. Without them, Kavka wouldn't be what it is - a place where you go to brouwse through the books and graphic prints, ask about artists you saw on an exhibition somewhere but don't remember the name of, if anything has been published about them and where you could get it. Sometimes you come to an opening, or to a book launch. And these few people always try to make your experience in Kavka worth your visit. Get to know them! We will introduce them to you one by one...

We would like to thank all the authors of the book, the actors and the guests of the evening very much for their participation at the book launch of There is Another World Somewhere. The event took place as the first event in the hall of the Fraz Kafka Society (Široká 14), which we are putting back into operation. It was beautiful, and we couldn't have asked for a better start. Take a look at the photos from the great. evening.

Stay in the picture on Kavka book's events!
Autumn is a good season for books. Whether it's the cooler weather, the longer evenings, or the way life returns to its normal rhythm after the summer, in our bookstore it's manifested in one way: a busy programme. We invite you to several book events, meetings with authors and to the new bookstore. And we're also introducing a few new titles that will be out before the end of the year.

6/6 2023 Opening of In the Gripp of Curiosities / erotic / poetic / fantastic
IN THE GRIPP OF CURIOSITIES exhibition had surrounded Kavka art book store in bizarre and surreal objects between eroticism, poetics and fantasy. Exhibiting artists Jan Švankmajer, Marie Jirásková and the group Buchty a loutky working on the border of theater, visual arts and film presented their latest works. Photostory: A book release evening of Jiří Šalamoun's poetry book
A book release party for Jiří Šalamoun's book of poems "Básně všechny a jedno leporelo 1978–2021" on the 20th of October. Several poems were on this occasion read by actors Arnošt Goldflam, Igor Bareš and Jan Kanyza, and also by Anička Duchaňová, who has set to music some of Šalamoun's texts.
We opened a small exhibition of graphic and other works by Jiří Šalamoun, which is open until 10th of November.
Photograps of the evening were taken by Helena Kristová.

Alena Kučerová: prints by one of the most important Czech artists of the second half of the 20th century
Alena Kučerová. One of the most outstanding graphic artists of the Czech art scene. Her work is gradually gaining appreciation and reputation in the Czech Republic and abroad. In Kavka we now have a short-term exhibition presenting a selection of Kučerová's prints.
