Alfred Stieglitz: Camera Work
Photographer, writer, publisher, and curator Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946) was a visionary far ahead of his time. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, he founded Photo-Secession, a progressive movement dealing with the advancing creative possibilities of photography. In 1903, he began publishing Camera Work, an avant-garde magazine dedicated to expressing ideas in images and words, on Photo-Secession. Camera Work was the first photo journal whose focus was more visual than technical, and the included illustrations were of the highest quality created by hand gravure printing and printed on Japanese fabric. This book presents all the photographs from the 50 issues of the magazine.
