Alois Nožička is one of the few fine art photographers who created abstract, surrealist works in the Czech environment in the late 1950s and the first half of the 1960s. His visual expression is quite unique - his motifs from 1960 onwards come almost without exception from rubbish dumps and landfills. His photographs display a convulsive beauty charged with a strong eroticism; yet they possess both a compositional order and a distinct aesthetic. Even by world comparison, he is one of the most original artists of the second half of the 20th century expressing himself exclusively through photography.
