The publication Czech Theatre Photography deals with the history of theatre photography in the Czech Republic. It covers a period of more than 150 years, from the first pictures taken in 1859 to the present day. It presents studio portrait photography, typical of the second half of the 19th century, and the interwar period, when theatre productions themselves began to be photographed and avant-garde companies used photography as part of stage design. He also devotes more space to the "golden 1960s", when photography became fully established as an artistic discipline and the legendary club scenes developed in the theatre. Finally, the changes brought about by digital photography and the advent of the Internet are discussed. The book contains hundreds of high quality reproductions depicting leading Czech theatres and theatre artists. Readers can see images from the National Theatre, Liberated Theatre, D34 Theatre, Semafor Theatre, Drama Club, Theatre behind the Gate, Husa na provázku Theatre and many others. The writing of the book was preceded by several years of research in dozens of museum collections and archives, some of the images are therefore published for the first time.
