A Monograph of Ludmila Vinopalová (1928–2017).
Secondhand book. Condition: very good.

Daniela Vinopalová (1928–2017) has always lived aside from the "artistic operation". Her work is connected with an inner deep spiritual path. Ludmila Vachtová wrote about her work: “Faith is a prerequisite for these special sculptures, religiosity or religion is not their mission. Their secret is in transcendence, in understanding the purpose of grace. ”This characteristic can basically be applied to the whole of the sculptor's work. She studied in Professor Pokorný's studio, so she went through a hard lesson in socialist realism. In 1961, however, it found an abstract form of "sculpture-vase"; the most distinctive feature of these hollow forms of expressive shapes are the lines running in a reticulated structure along their surface. Since the mid-1960s, "architectures" have also been created, made of soldered or bonded wires, connected by mesh and covered with a textile on which it has applied plaster. In 1967, it realized a large format for the first time and began construction of the sculpture To Space IV. She used cement, a material corresponding to modern architecture. A complex constructively tuned and at the same time organic structure of organized space was created as a record of the universe. The onset of normalization meant for Vinopal's seventeen-year break in free creation. After retiring (1986), she was privately asked whether she would create an altar canteen and a cross for the Prague Church of St. Jiljí. Thanks to that, she was finally able to return to the job that was closest to her. In the 1990s, she also returned to a series of sculptures and a cycle of "architectural" sculptures called To Space. The culmination of the work of the post-November period was the plastic construction of Thanksgiving (2007), to which the author gave thanks for everything that transcends man. The book also includes texts and testimonies of both Daniela Vinopalová and art historians, and an almost complete chronological list of the work, detailed biographical data and lists of exhibitions. The most important of the textual studies of all three authors concludes the book in an English summary.
