The first comprehensive edition of Eugen Wiškovský's photographs together with his texts.

The first comprehensive edition of Eugen Wiškovský's photographs together with his texts. Photographer, pedagogue, translator of Sigmund Freud and, last but not least, tennis player Eugen Wiškovský (1888–1964) is increasingly praised as a leading representative of the Czech avant-garde and ranked alongside authors such as František Drtikol, Jaromír Funke and Jaroslav Rössler. In terms of the scope of a small photographic work, the creator was also the author of many, but even more inspiring, texts on photography, in which he summarized the principles of avant-garde photography, defended the originality of photography among other types of art and introduced a specific concept of perceiving black and white photography. The American art historian Matthew S. Witkovsky introduces him in the introductory text as a photographer who reacted very specifically to the new materiality and combined the approach to photography with stimuli from shape psychology or psychoanalysis. This first comprehensive re-edition of Wiškovsky's texts is certainly inspiring not only for art theorists, but also for those who are looking for other ways in their own photographic work.
