The second book from the Unesco Monuments edition of the Foibos publishing house deals with the small settlement of Holašovice, which lies in the charming landscape of southern Bohemia near České Budějovice in the Šumava foothills. The village of Holašovice is an example of the best-preserved South Bohemian folk architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The core of the village is a village square, around which is a set of 17 farms with typical gables in the style of South Bohemian Baroque. The Holašovice Monument Reserve was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998. The publication Holašovice: Village Monument Reserve deals with the history of the village from the oldest history to the present state and the current care of monuments. The catalog describes in detail the individual buildings, which complement the photographs of the current state as well as historical photographs and plans. The vast majority of homesteads in the village today are used for permanent living, only two are used for recreation. The former inn continues to serve its purpose, in the blacksmith's house there is now a shop and a fire station in the forge. Holašovice is the most representative and best-preserved example of traditional folk architecture and their current appearance documents the appearance of a typical South Bohemian village from around the middle of the 19th century with a strong genius loci.
