In a Deserted City / Prague spring 2020
Absolutly inimitable, captivating, beautiful, and frightening. These few words can be used to describe the experience of walking through a deserted Prague during the quarantine that affected many towns and places, and not just in our country. Nobody from our generation or even the generation of our parents and grandparents had ever experienced anything similar. Hopefully our children will be spared this experience and we will be able to share it as a memory – thanks to this book of unique black-and-white photograps in which Pavel Hroch captured the Czech capital for the brief time when it was left alone, when it could be itself. Join him on a tour of empty streets, stand amidst deserted squares, and gaze at Prague's architectural jewels, usually hidden behind the ever-present shroud of madding crowds. Your guide on this tour is a distinctive, personal text by the writer Miloš Urban.
Did it even happen? Maybe it was all a dream.
