Wiliam Turner was a shy and eccentric loner. As an extraordinarily productive artist, he quickly became one of the most successful English landscape painters. His late work provoked and polarized the art scene of its time. Although he did not become famous outside of Great Britain during his lifetime, today he is considered an exceptional talent of Romanticism and Impressionism.
