Jan Ságl: Šel sem se psem
The book Šel sem se psem (Walking the Dog) is the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name by Jan Ságl at the U Bílého jednorožce gallery in Klatovy, which will take place in 2024. The exhibition presents a series of photographs taken by Jan Ságl during the COVID pandemic of 2020, when our freedom of movement was restricted by anti-pandemic measures and one of the few permitted leisure activities was walking the dog. During his walks, Ságl captured details of nature and the landscape around his own home in the village of Středokluky near Prague. The colourful details of floral objects and landscapes encourage us to recognise the uniqueness of the present moment, which may lie in its own transience.
In addition to the aforementioned series, the exhibition and catalogue also present Ságl's photographs from his earlier series Home Tour (1973), Polachrome / Křížov pod Blaníkem (1985-1987), Swallows (1975), Autumn (2017), as well as cycles devoted to wine growing in Pavlov (since 2017), Alsace (2012-2016), Istria (2017), and cycles from Brittany devoted to sea salt processing (since 2003) and oyster farming (since 2018).
