Jiří Valenta (1936-1991) was an important representative of Czech Informel painting and a participant in the "Confrontation" exhibitions. After leaving Czechoslovakia in 1968, he continued in his previous work but failed to gain a footing in the German gallery scene. In 1975, he stopped painting and secretly began to photograph, although he never exhibitedhis works and kept them only as slides.
