A prominent exponent of cabinet painting and the first specialist in the still-life genre in Bohemia, Johann Adalbert Angermeyer, painted flowers, fruit, woodland scenes, hunting trophies and distinctive works made on commission. Angermeyer’s early career is related to the growing interest in art collecting and the establishing of picture galleries.

A comprehensive survey of his oeuvre is gaining new prominence today, owing to the ongoing re-identification of works as being by Angermeyer. The monograph is accompanied by a catalogue of the artist’s paintings and an overview of works attributed to him and those excluded from his output. Based on an in-depth study of sources, numerous yet-unclarified circumstances of his life are brought to light. In connection with Baroque painting in Bohemia and the artistic production in Central Europe, this is an uncommon theme that has not yet been fully researched.
