"The poem Giosuè Carducci of Satan has been admired by Váchal since his young years. The anti-clerical celebratory ode to Satan (Inno and Satan) was composed by the liberal writer Carducci in 1863, published in 1865. He recited it to his friends from the Vinohrady promenade in 1905. In 1926 Váchal published the poem in the form of a representative large-format book, equipped with twelve colored linocuts, with distinctive colors, generous modeling and figural compositions in which the heroic figural canon is a distant inspiration by William. Blaek. The pathos that Váchal achieves in these letters corresponds to the tuning of Carducci's poetic diction. Váchal used Vrchlický's translation of the poem, but revised it himself. The book won an award at the International Exhibition of the Beautiful Book in Florence in 1927. "
