"Art in such a way that everyone can make it" - this is one of the modest statements of Karel Adamus (*1943) about his own work. We soon suspect, even if we only know him as an experimental poet – the patience and humility that his typewritten compositions of the late 1960s required, not everyone really has. And not even the persistence and consistency of thought on which conceptual cycles from the 1970s and 1980s are based. Equally rare are the tenderness, trust in nature, and intellectual perspective of the Peripatetic and Wind Poems, in which he deepens the philosophical essence of his work and at the same time develops entirely unique visual techniques. The independence and understated boldness of Adamus's writing over the past two decades completes his work and our understanding of a creator who is truly inimitable, living by his convictions, not his audience's interest.
