This is the catalogue for the first exhibition of works by Marta Kolářová at Ostrava’s House of Art. The economical, personal and highly concentrated texts by the exhibition’s curator Milan Weber and the teacher Michael Rittstein (from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts) correspond with the economy of expression that typifies Kolářová’s canvases.

Her work lies on the boundary between literal landscapes and the artist’s inner landscape – which are both interwoven in her canvases. In some cases, a more tangible representation of reality comes to the fore, while in other cases Kolářová’s emotional imagination is dominant, as the image is submerged in abstract smudges, lines and blurred shapes. The graphic designer of the catalogue was Jiří Šigut. The robust paper jacket with the painter’s name spelled out in perforations also corresponds closely with the nature of her work. The catalogue presents works from the period from 2008 to 2019; besides paintings, it also includes reproductions of Kolářová’s occasional.
