The commentaries on selected works from the 1934–1938 period indicate Kokoschka’s influence on the Czech art scene and the local sources of inspiration for his work. The individual essays describe Kokoschka’s private and public life, as well as his political opinions and commitment against the strengthening politics of Nazi Germany. The final section includes the works and short biographies of Czech artists such as Friedrich Feigl, Bohdan Heřmanský, Willi Nowak, Emil Filla and František Janoušek, or the representatives of the émigré artists in Czechoslovakia – John Heartfield and Johannes Wüsten.
