In Czech environment, the Fantastic Realism is only a little known artistic style of the 2nd half of 20th century, based on grotesque and surreal point of view, referring to many historical points of art history and simultaneously to the temporary pop-culture. Even though the main epicentre was in Vienna a very specific offshoot was established in Prague.  An 2016 exhibition introduced the phenomenon of Fantastic Realism in work of three artists, who met in the beginning of 60's at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts: Jan Jedlička, Mikuláš Rachlík and Vladivoj Kotyza. Aesthetics of their works was formed during their studies of bizarre and absurd genius loci of that time Prague. A magic of past and a lapse of present communist era is mixed with an desire for high burgess culture and a surreal poetics of periphery, ruins and junk heaps. The catalogue is enriched with many reproductions and came out in bilingual Czech-English edition.
