Grain depots and silos are evidence of changes in twentieth-century technology, architecture, economics and politics. It allowed self-help peasant cooperatives to control the grain trade, became an instrument of its regulation and later nationalization. Engineers and architects of specialized offices were looking for the most suitable solution for them, the best typology.

The publication identifies and locates 360 of these buildings in the Czech lands, Slovakia and Subcarpathian Russia, and thus provides an overview of this hitherto rather neglected part of the industrial heritage.

The publication was created as part of the Industrial Architecture project. Monument of industrial heritage as a technical-architectural work and as a site identity (DG16P02H001) in the program of applied research and development of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic NAKI II.
