Sophie Curtil - Miloš Cvach: Harmony of Opposites

The exhibition catalog for Czech artist Miloš Cvach (b. 1945) and French artist Sophie Curtil (b. 1949) aims to trace their creative development from their student years to the present. Through a chronological narrative and by placing their work in dialogue with one another, it reveals the specificities, intersections, and differences between the artists, whose personal and professional paths converged half a century ago. Their artistic personalities crystallized in the climate of a free society in France, where Miloš Cvach moved in the mid-1970s from the Czechoslovak normalization totalitarian regime to join his wife Sophie. Both were thus able to naturally absorb the contemporary trends in world art, such as Minimalism or the Arte Povera movement, and against this backdrop formulate their own authentic artistic expression.
