An extended, generously illustrated monograph containing almost 600 reproductions released on the occasion of the exhibition in City Gallery Prague represents the first and complex introduction to the EXPO 58 phenomenon focusing on the atmosphere of the first post-war World Fair in Brussels, where the Czechoslovak pavilion achieved legendary success, as well as the decisive influence of the exhibition on lifestyle of that period. Particular chapters deal with the Brussels’ style in the area of glass, china and furniture design, typography, fashion and industry as well as topical issues of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s Czechoslovakia, when radio and TV broadcasting was on the rise and the pop culture just emerged. The Brussels Dream has the ambition to become the first objective testimony on the Czechoslovak pavilion at EXPO 58 and due to the in-depth depiction of each topic and their composition into the complex whole also the essential handbook of cultural history of the early 1960’s.
