The Prague of Charles IV.
The book presents a colorful picture of the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia in the period of peak Gothic culture and art against the background of historical contexts that happened to Prague during the reign of Charles IV. (1347-1378) extremely favorable. After Charles' coronation in 1355 as Roman emperor, the capital of the Czech Crown became the capital of the Holy Roman Empire for the first time in its history. Prague Charles IV. she opened her gates and offered a "table for entertainment" to builders, students, artists, craftsmen, guests, wherever they came from. In the prestigious royal and imperial care, which, in addition to Charles' ruling position in Europe, reflected his Western European education and cosmopolitan openness as well as faith, respect for Přemyslid tradition and personal interest, the city blossomed into original beauty. The cathedral, the stone bridge, the university and the construction of the New Town with its magical cross of churches still confirm as stone seals the Prague face of Gothic architecture, signed paintings and sculptures and the whole sphere of spiritual culture.
The book is supplemented by around 130 photographs of Prague's monuments, realities and documentary pictures
