The Second Fire

The region surrounding Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world, is one of the places on Earth most threatened by global warming. Accumulating heat creeps under the lake’s ice, while pollution of the lake’s coastal zone has reached catastrophic proportions. ‘The Second Fire’ is a multimedia project created in Eastern Siberia under the auspices of a Fulbright Scholar Grant. It includes experimental photographs, three-channel videos, original music based on scientific data about climate change, and essays contributed by Kate Pride Brown, Marianne Moore, and Anna Sirina. All photographs in the book are single-frame captures by Gabriela Bulišová and Mark Isaac.
