Over the past two decades Tomas Cisarovsky (1962) has made some remarkable achievements in the visual arts. Nowadays he ranks among the most prominent Czech painters, presenting his works in art galleries both in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as being included in prestigious public and private collections. He has always focused on traditional hanging pictures (such as figural and landscape motifs, portraits), mostly in oil, creating a series of mono-thematic cycles (From the Journal of Granddad Legionnaire, 1989; Turn Over, Naty, 1994; Without Horses, 1996; Holiday in Czech, 2006). However, this pictorial book presents a collection of his equally inspiring watercolours from the years 2002 – 2010, which are also the core of his exhibition Yellow Spot organised by the Prague City Gallery in the Prague Old Town Hall from September till November. The author of the exhibition concept, Karel Srp, concluded his opening commentary with the words: “the watercolours address the state of contemporary society, rather than the author. He plays with increasingly difficult themes, finding himself in their flow, adrift, adapting and surpassing them as an observer who is both within and outside; being close and far away at the same time.” This book of watercolours is completed with an English summary and a list of Tomas Cisarovsky’s solo exhibitions.
