Vanitas (EN)

The extensive publication entitled Vanitas in Contemporary Czech Art reflects the exhibition of the same name featuring the work of more than sixty contemporary artists. Although modern society has pushed marginalized death and dying and made them taboo, in art they have remained an important theme. The message of vanity represented by a still-life with flowers or a skull clearly reflects the general nature of its reference, and is both timeless and highly topical. The catalogue includes an anthology of poetry, including work by contemporary poets, and theoretical reflections written by Jiřina Šiklová, Jiří Přibáň, Tomáš Hříbek, and Tereza Matějčková. The book’s graphic design is by Robert V. Novák.
