Villa Tugendhat 1980–1985
In the early 1980s, the first restoration and reconstruction of Villa Tugendhat took place. Architect Josef Němec, director of the State Institute for the Reconstruction of Historic Towns and Buildings in Brno (SÚRPMO Brno), initiated the rescue of the then already considerably devastated building, and subsequently entrusted the restoration proposal to a team led by architect Kamil Fuchs. The actual implementation, which changed the project in many ways, or even vetoed it, was carried out by the Stavební podnik of the city of Brno. The villa then served as representation and accommodation for important guests of the city. The SÚRPMO Brno project was created in the socio-political atmosphere of the then socialist Czechoslovakia and was highly professional for its time, when the care of monuments of modern architecture worldwide was at its very beginning. The opening of the villa to the public was not successful, but the main thing was successful - saving the Tugendhat villa for future generations.
