Zdeněk Sýkora: The Painter

Already in the 1960s, the painter Zdeněk Sýkora (1920–2011) used a computer to program his structural paintings, thanks to which he became known in the West and was invited to the prestigious documenta 4 exhibition held in Kassel in 1968. often referred to as a "computer artist". In reality, however, he used the computer only as a technical aid, and the structure of his images was never dependent on programming. Zdeněk Sýkor's book. The painter foregrounds the painterly elements of his work and highlights the importance of the computer in his work. Its author Hans-Peter Riese has been friends with Zdenek Sýkora since the mid-1960s and wrote a number of texts about his work. The publication is a comprehensive presentation of Sýkor's complete work and is published in Czech and German, both editions are supplemented by an English translation of the German original.
