Zdeněk Sklenář (1910-1986) was a painter, graphic artist and illustrator. He studied at the Academy of Arts and Crafts, first under Arnošt Hofbauer, then under Zdeněk Kratochvíl. He later returned to the Prague School of Applied Arts as a teacher. In the mid-1950s, he visited China, whose culture greatly influenced Sklenář's further work, in which he worked calligraphically with the character and script. In his paintings and prints he worked with lines and curves, evoking often mythical worlds full of mysterious shapes.
