Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) studied painting before taking up photography in his early twenties. One of the founders of the photography agency Magnum (together with Robert Capa and others), he is best known for the consummate skill with which he captured the most fleeting of scenes. This volume, introduced by Michael Brenson, includes selections from his photographs of France, Spain, America, India, Russia, Mexico and pre-revolutionary China.

The Photofile series brings together the world´s greatest photographers and provides an accesible introduction to their oeuvre, Opening with a brief introduction on the subject and presenting key images from the artist´s body of work, each book captures his or her style and breadth. The Photofile series is the original English-language edition of the Photo Poche collection. It was first published between 1986 and 1992 by Centre National de la Photographie in Paris.
