Accompanying an exhibition with the same title, this publication introduces twelve exhibition projects which formed the history of design in Czechia in the 20th century.

The publication accompanying the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague presents twelve exhibition projects that shaped the history of design in the Czech lands in the 20th century. These projects were both daring and risky in their concepts, in the geopolitical context of the time and, above all, in their innovative installation. Thanks to the curatorial concepts of Jiřina Vydrová, Jindřich Chalupecký, Karel Koželka, Karel Hetteš, Josef Kroutvor, Ludvík Hlaváček, the visionary Zdeněk Pešánek and, above all, the design theorist Milena Lamara, the selected exhibitions explored and reinterpreted the phenomena of the past and captured or even anticipated the creative tendencies of the object world of their time. The exhibitions thus illustrate UPM's key role in the history of 20th century design. The museum has also made a significant contribution to the history of Czech exhibition design with the provocative solutions of Otto Rothmayer, Ivan Sova, Václav Cigler, Karel Prager, Michal Brix and Petr Hornek. The design of the selected exhibitions was co-created by prominent photographers Jan Svoboda and Gabriel Urbánek and graphic designers Jan Kotík, Josef Flejšar, Pavel Kopřiva and Aleš Najbrt.
