Spiritual Catholic Christian Essence of All Prayers, Franc Štěpánek, 1824-1825. Handwritten Prayer B

A manuscript facsimile of a prayer book dating from 1824–1825, published to mark the occasion of the exhibition entitled Handwritten Prayer Books from the 18^th and 19^th Centuries. The Collections of Jan Poš in the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum gives the reader an idea about both the form and content of Christian prayer books. Transcribed and decorated prayer books represent a unique but underrated cultural phenomenon of the Czech and Moravian bilingual rural areas from this particular period. The book, selected from the collections of Jan Poš, is visually one of the most comprehensive manuscripts, and the writing is highly legible. The author, František Štěpánek of Sytová, north Bohemia, transcribed these prayers in 1824–1825 for Anna Kytlerová of Hrabačov and completed them with rich, colourful and beautiful naive illustrations.
